How to convert fractions to percentages fast
- Learn the anchors: 1/2 = 50%, 1/4 = 25%, 1/5 = 20%, 1/8 = 12.5% and 1/10 = 10%. Everything else is a multiple of one of them: 3/8 = 3 × 12.5% = 37.5%.
- Divide 100 by the denominator, then multiply by the numerator. For 5/16: 100 ÷ 16 = 6.25, and 6.25 × 5 = 31.25%.
- Decimal to percentage: move the decimal point two places right (0.375 = 37.5%). Percentage to decimal: move it two places left (62.5% = 0.625).
- Thirds and sixths never end (1/3 = 0.333…), so this test sticks to fractions that end neatly. The chart still shows them rounded.
