Cubes 1 to 30 Test

medium

A cube is a number multiplied by itself twice. This test gives you ten cube questions per round: Easy covers 1³ to 10³, Medium 6³ to 20³, and Hard 11³ to 30³.

Cubes of 6 to 20.

The first ten cubes are 1, 8, 27, 64, 125, 216, 343, 512, 729, 1000. The chart below goes up to 30³ = 27,000, and the tricks show how to build any cube from the square.

Tricks for working out cubes

  • Cube = number × its square. For 12³: 12 × 144 = 1728.
  • For multiples of 10, cube the front digit and add three zeros: 30³ = 27 × 1000 = 27,000.
  • Units digits: cubes of numbers ending in 0, 1, 4, 5, 6 or 9 end in the same digit. Numbers ending in 2 and 8 swap, and so do 3 and 7: 2³ = 8, 8³ = 512, 3³ = 27, 7³ = 343.
  • Split into tens and units: (10 + 2)³ = 1000 + 3 × 100 × 2 + 3 × 10 × 4 + 8 = 1000 + 600 + 120 + 8 = 1728.
  • Learn the first ten cubes: 1, 8, 27, 64, 125, 216, 343, 512, 729, 1000.

Frequently asked questions

What are the cubes from 1 to 10?

1³ = 1, 2³ = 8, 3³ = 27, 4³ = 64, 5³ = 125, 6³ = 216, 7³ = 343, 8³ = 512, 9³ = 729, 10³ = 1000.

What is 15 cubed?

15³ = 3375, because 15 × 15 = 225 and 225 × 15 = 3375.

What is the cube of 12?

12³ = 1728, because 12 × 12 = 144 and 144 × 12 = 1728.

What is the difference between a square and a cube?

A square multiplies a number by itself once (5² = 25). A cube multiplies it by itself twice (5³ = 125).

How is the speed maths test scored?

Each test has 10 questions. Answer 8 or more correctly to pass. Your time is recorded for the whole test, and your best time for each test and level is saved on your own device, so you can try to beat it.
